Uttarakhand: In a recent development, a suspected Chinese helicopter has supposedly violated Indian airspace, after the copter was spotted early morning in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli area, close to the Sino-Indian border.

Various media reports quoted police officials saying that the helicopter entered Indian airspace from the Tibetan side, and continued to hover over Barahoti for a few minutes before finally flying back.

While this is a common occurrence, and such violations have been witnessed in the past, the current situation of events has forced the Indian forces to be vigilant regarding such activities. However, it was clarified by an official that the helicopter was not affiliated to the Chinese military.

But the fact that the Chinese helicopter violated Indian airspace is reason enough to question the northeastern neighbours, who intruded the airspace without prior permission.

The initial aerial activity was spotted by Local intelligence unit and added that the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was aware of the suspicious activity.

Official procedures such as informing the defence ministry and the state government have already been completed.

India, over a period of time, has been engaged with China over territorial disputes, apart from several other issues.
