It appears like the swearing-in of five-time Gorakhpur Parliament Member Yogi Adityanath to the post of Bharatiya Janata Party legislative party leader in Uttar Pradesh has come as an astonishment for Pakistan.

Yogi, who has often found himself in the middle of controversies because of his statements against minorities, was the party’s choice to lead the country’s most populous state after it won a two-third majority in the Assembly elections. The announcement drew mixed reactions from the media, political circles and public. His appointment also drew sharp criticism from opposition parties who accused the BJP of propping up a divisive figure after running the poll campaign on the vow of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’

Yogi, who has on number of occasions, has never refrained himself for targeting Pakistan for letting its soil used by its terrorists against India, became the party’s choice to lead the country’s most populous state. As per a leading media report, a Pakistan newspaper has reportedly accused the newly-elected Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister of being anti-Muslims and a hardcore Hindu. Pakistan=based ‘The Nation’ has reportedly said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi pics Hindu hardliner Yogi Adityanath to lead Uttar Pradesh”. Not only the above, several other Pak-based newspapers too carrying rather ‘not so welcome’ news pieces on Yogi Adityanath’s elevation as UP CM.

“The choice of Yogi Adityanath – who has been repeatedly accused of stirring anti-Muslim sentiments – to lead Uttar Pradesh, came as a shock to many political observers here, who have become accustomed to the carefully moderated public positions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in line with his projected image as a pro-development leader and global statesman,” read the New York Times report.

Well, looking at such developments, it would not be wrong to say that the surprising move by PM Modi of designating Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister of India’s most populous state is not being enjoyed and is rather giving a tough time to Pakistan.
